Midlife is often described through milestones and transition: careers, relationships, children, ageing parents, divorce or reinvention. Yet the lived experience is rarely so neat.

For many people, this chapter of life brings questions that are difficult to articulate. Things begin to shift. Certainties unravel. New possibilities emerge. Parts of ourselves are rediscovered, while others are left behind.

In Flux is a growing collection of anonymous reflections from people navigating this territory. Together, these fragments create a collective portrait of midlife as it is actually lived: complex, contradictory, uncertain, hopeful, painful, ordinary and sometimes profound.

The project is built on a simple belief: that there is value in sharing our experiences, and in reading the experiences of others. By making visible the often unseen realities of midlife, we can develop a richer understanding of this stage of life and perhaps feel a little less alone in our own journeys.

In Flux was created by Ra Goel, an artist and strategist based in the UK and Germany. His creative work explores themes of transition, identity, memory and the experience of living through periods of change. In Flux extends those interests beyond photography, creating a space where people can share fragments of their own experience in their own words.

Every reflection is anonymous.

Thank you for being part of the portrait.
